Local technology sector dubbed a leader

WASHINGTON DC – Ventura County’s technology sector is a leader in the state, showing significant growth in the last six years, according to a report Tuesday by the Progressive Policy Institute in Washington, D.C.

The report, “The California Tech/Info Boom: How it is Spreading Across the State,” documents how the boom continues to propel the California economy and highlights strong growth in a wide range of metro regions not traditionally associated with the tech/info sector.

Recent data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics was used to measure growth and which regions were creating the most tech/info jobs.

The San Jose area was tops, with 48 percent growth over the last six years, followed by San Francisco, 41 percent; Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo, both 37 percent; Redding and Fresno, both 20 percent; Santa Cruz, 18 percent; Chico, 17 percent; Stockton, 16 percent; Santa Rosa, 13 percent; and Visalia and Oxnard-Thousand Oaks-Ventura, both 10 percent.
